The modern urban environments have an enormous amount of information, with a historical and cultural importance, which may not be easily applicable or used from tourism and creative industries. This amount of information is neither “structured” or static. Instead, it is dispersed in many cases, while its changing nature does not allow the systematic utilization of the information.
Usually, the information is in front of the user, but in the context of routine, he ignores it. A typical example consists the cultural and historical content which is dispersed in the “Street names” of the big or smaller towns. The project’s aim is to develop an application which will offer the following potentialities:
- It will offer first-hand historical information about the origin of a street’s name throughout augmented reality technologies,
- It will associate concept - historical period, which is evoked by the street’s name, with points of cultural interest.
- It will have the potentiality to drive the visitor, while suggesting personalized thematic – historical walks in town.
- It will incorporate the geographical dimension and delivers customized information based on user's previous selections.
In order to achieve these goals, it is required the creation of an online city platform which will host all the data that are related with each town’s streets and an Augmented Reality application that will be designed for mobile phones and smart glasses.
